Boris Johnson considers rejection of EU deal most likely

The positions of Great Britain and the European Union on the terms of cooperation after Brexit are still very far from each other, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.

According to Mr. Johnson, an agreement is still possible, but he thinks a more likely solution to trade with the EU under the rules of the World Trade Organization ( WTO ). Note that the parties were going to make a decision on further cooperation by the end of this week.

“How are things ... I'm afraid we are still very far from each other on some key issues. The most probable thing now is that we must prepare for the WTO conditions ( without an agreement - Kommersant ), ”said Boris Johnson (quoted by Sky News).

Asked if he thinks there is some  political progress and if the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is more optimistic, Johnson replied: “If Ursula is optimistic, that's great. But as far as I can see, there are some serious and  very, very difficult issues that currently separate the UK from the EU. "

The UK left the EU on January 31st. Until the end of 2020, a transitional period lasts, when the parties agree on future cooperation. EU rules still apply to the UK. Today, the UK government has advised stores to stockpile food in case the country has to leave the EU without an agreement.
