China imposes retaliatory sanctions on the US and Canada

Individuals and organizations will be subject to restrictions.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry decided to impose retaliatory sanctions against the United States and Canada due to the  situation around the  Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the PRC. This is reported by Reuters, citing a statement from the department.

The restrictions will affect some individuals and organizations, including the head of the American Commission on International Religious Freedom and a member of the Canadian parliament. The PRC calls on the United States and Canada to correct the "erroneous actions" in Xinjiang and stop interfering in China's internal affairs.

Earlier, the US, EU , UK and Canada imposed sanctions against four Chinese citizens and one organization on charges of human rights violations in Xinjiang. In response, Beijing blacklisted ten parliamentarians and academics, as well as four EU organizations. Later, China imposed retaliatory sanctions against the UK. Citizens and organizations that "spread lies and misinformation" about Xinjiang fell under the restrictions.
