US President Joe Biden on Wednesday canceled another decree from his predecessor, Donald Trump, barring certain categories of foreigners from entering the country. This was reported by the press service of the White House.
Last April, Trump signed a document banning the entry of foreigners who pose a risk to the American labor market during the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, the ex-president extended the decree twice.
Biden canceled the document, saying that it does not protect US interests.
“It harms the United States, including preventing family members of US citizens and lawful permanent residents from reuniting with their families. It also harms the industries of the US economy that employ specialists from all over the world. And it harms people who have received immigration visas as part of the annual lottery, ”the head of state explained his position.
After taking office, Biden overturned several executive orders passed by Trump. In early February, he ordered the reunification of children and parents who illegally crossed the border into Mexico. This practice was introduced by Trump as part of the policy of "zero tolerance for migrants."
Later, the State Department announced its intention to return to the Human Rights Council at the UN, from where Trump had withdrawn the country three years earlier. On February 19, Biden returned the United States to the Paris Climate Agreement, which included reducing carbon emissions and modernizing industries.
On the same day, Washington withdrew the request of the previous president's administration to the UN to renew sanctions against Iran. Under Trump, the United States withdrew from the "nuclear deal" and again began sanctioning pressure on Tehran. Biden announced his readiness to restore the deal with Iran.
