There is no need to restart relations between Russia and the United States, US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan said on January 30.
According to him, Washington has always believed that it is necessary to conduct a dialogue with Russia.
“Our diplomatic relations are more than two hundred years old - they emerged at the beginning of the 19th century, when the Russian Empire recognized the United States, then a young state. As states of exceptional importance, we must maintain a dialogue with each other, and we continue to do so, ”said the high-ranking diplomat.
According to him, a good example of cooperation between the two countries was not only the START-3 agreement, but also the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Sullivan said on the Dozhd TV channel.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Joe Biden held their first telephone conversation on January 26, during which they discussed, in particular, the fate of the START Treaty. After that, Putin submitted a bill on the ratification of the document to the lower house of parliament.
As a result, the State Duma and the Federation Council ratified an agreement to extend the treaty.
