A passenger plane in Nepal lands in the wrong city

The pilots strayed 402 km from the route by mistake.

The plane of the Nepalese airline Buddha Air, which took off from Kathmandu to Janakpur, accidentally landed in Pokhara, 402 km from its destination.

The confusion stemmed from  "communication gaps and failure to follow detailed standard operating procedures," Asta Basnet, the airline's chief executive , told CNN .

Having discovered the error, the pilots received special permission to take off from Pokhara and land in Janakpur several hours later than the schedule. In the end, 69 passengers on the flight arrived safely at their destination.

The airline formed a committee to investigate the error.
