Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft ban on second citizenship for civil servants

Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a bill banning second citizenship or residence permits for state and municipal employees.

The document was published in the database of the lower house of parliament.

Also, officials will be required to report the termination of Russian citizenship and the receipt of another document confirming the right to reside abroad.

The bill states that civil servants who, within six months after the entry into force of the document, do not confirm the absence of foreign citizenship, will be fired.

The ban on foreign citizenship applies to the head of the Bank of Russia and governors.

As explained to RIA Novosti by the chairman of the Federation Council committee on constitutional legislation, Andrei Klishas, this measure will also affect diplomats and their spouses.

In addition, the President proposed to amend the Labor Code, according to which the employee will have to inform in writing about the termination of Russian citizenship. After that, the employment contract with him is terminated.
