Iran reports highest single-day infection cases

Iran on Thursday reported the highest daily coronavirus cases with 3,574 new infections.

The highest infection cases in Iran was 3,186 recorded on March 30. On Monday, the virus cases had jumped to nearly 3,000 a day as the country warned that another "dangerous peak" was approaching.

The country's health department said that 59 people have died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
Iran had reported a two-month low on May 2 with numbers at below 100 earlier.

Health Minister Saeed Namaki had said earlier that "people have become completely careless regarding this disease" as cases began to rise.

"They either have total confidence in us or think the coronavirus has gone," the health minister had said.

Iran has the highest COVID-19 in the Middle East with over 157,000 cases and more than 7,900 deaths. The virus which was first reported in February has spread to several parts of the country.

The government had said that virus cases in Hormozgan, Baluchistan, Kermanshah and Sistan was surging with health workers struggling to cope with new cases.
