Ajman Man Discovers 3,557,509 Dirham in Wife's Secret Account

Maryam Kouri, a Ajman mother of 2, risked her marriage and her family to hide a shocking secret from her husband of 13 years. 

 Sa'eed and Maryam Kouri, residents of Ajman, were married for almost 15 years. Sa'eed worked as an engineer in the city; and, to help with their bills, Maryam helped at a local clinic. They felt they had control of their finances until recently, when Sa'eed's company fell victim to the nationwide financial crisis. His boss cut his pay drastically and he had to work more hours to help his company survive. To make matters worse, Maryam lost her job at the clinic. 


"Sa'eed worked very long hours. He was providing for our needs, but I noticed how tired he became. We tried to save all the money we could but it never seemed like enough to pay our bills” Maryam shared. “We really were not sure what was going to happen. And, I was pregnant with Sara, so we just prayed to God for the best.”

Soon after Sara was born, Maryam was browsing Facebook one afternoon and saw an advertisement saying she could earn 3,867 Dirham per day from home. Maryam decided she needed a way to hide this money until she gained the courage to tell Sa'eed about her new job. So, she secretly opened a bank account without her husband’s knowledge. She chose to have the checks deposited directly into that account each week. 

And just like that life went on as normal for 3 years. Sa'eed would go to work while Maryam worked on the Dubai Lifestyle system at home. She did not touch the money in the secret account. “It was very hard for me to keep such a big secret from my husband. I felt like I was betraying him, but I feared telling him more. Looking back on it, it was foolish of me to keep it from him” Maryam said.

Early last year, Sa'eed lost his job. When he took the loss really hard, Maryam decided it was time to tell him what she had been doing everyday. So, one afternoon, she walked to the bank and cashed out the secret account she had been growing for over 3 years. By then the account had made over 3,557,509 Dirham. 

“Maryam sat down next to me and told me she had been hiding something from me and that God would be ashamed of her” Sa'eed shared. Then she pulled a check from her dress and handed it to me. It was written out to her and signed by our bank for 3,557,509 Dirham. I did not believe it at first, and then she told me about the Dubai Lifestyle system.”
